Please join us for the 15th anniversary of Fido Follies on Saturday evening, June 23, 2012. Fido Follies is a unique three-dog relay event held at RAT’s summer trial. It is non-sanctioned, but does feature homemade ribbons and fabulous prizes for the first four teams. There are also prizes for best costumes and other categories.
What makes the Follies unique are the special handler challenges. In the past these challenges have included: pausing in your run to throw tennis balls at a target; negotiating obstacles like the weaves or tunnel yourself; or lying on a mattress and getting the dog to kiss your face. Its never the same and its always fun, both for competitors and spectators.
At "Games People Play" in 2003, the Trivial Pursuit station involved a test of throwing and fetching.
The Follies rules are unusual, but standard obstacles, jump heights, and faults are borrowed from NADAC/ASCA. Teams are made up of three dog-handler pairs. Dogs jump the lowest of the regular jump heights of the dogs on their team.
Fido Follies 2012
The theme for Fido Follies 2012 is “The Dog Aquatic”. Team names and dog and human costumes should be based on this theme. For more information and to register, see the premium.
"2001: A Dog Oddity" featured a science fiction theme. Shown are judge/course designer Gordon "Obi Wan" Frazier giving a briefing, as Trekkies, aliens, and HAL the computer look on. Top of page: During the "Hurry Up and Wait" game at the first Follies in 1997, the handler had to perform some of the obstacles for a change.
